Our Purpose and Mission

CONTROLOGY - the term that Joseph Pilates used to describe his exercise method

LAB - a place providing opportunity for experimentation, observation, or practice in a field of study

Pilates on the Coast is a place (our contrology lab) where we explore functional movement (both within and outside of the Pilates repertoire) in an experimental way, without rigidity and rules, through observation and practice.  A place where we both educate and teach our clients, in an exploratory way, how to embody functional movement through various modalities such as Pilates,  Franklin Method and Body Rolling.  And a place where we continually educate ourselves and our community that functional movement embodiment, rather than choreographed movement, is the key to healing our bodies.

The Movement - The Education - The Collective

The Movement

We offer a variety of Pilates, FM Infused Pilates and Ball Rolling classes (both private, semi-private and group).  All of our classes are functional movement based which means that you will be participating in the class both physically and mentally in order to gain a deeper and more intimate understanding of your body.  This makes for a different experience because the education you receive in each of your classes will then allow for you to transfer that information into your every day life, which is where true change happens.  You must be able to transfer that knowledge into your everyday as this is where you spend most of your time.

The Education

In order to gain a deeper understanding of how to feel better in your body you must first have a clear understanding of how your body operates.  This understanding will then allow for your mind to communicate with your body in order to start making changes, we call this body talk.  Pilates on the Coast will be offering monthly workshops in order to bring you the information you need to change your experience with your body.  Once you understand the workings of your body you will then be able to understand those of your clients and be able to confidently educate and change the way they feel and live in their bodies.

The Collective

Definition: "A Collective Is a group of individuals that share or are motivated by at least one common issue or interest, or work together to achieve a common objective". 

At Pilates on the Coast, 'The Collective' is a group of Instructors that are both interested and motivated in continuing education, particularly in functional movement.  The Collective will share and learn from one another, in an unbiased and supportive platform, in order to gain a deeper understanding of functional movement in order to gain a deeper understanding better serve our clients.
